A stock market game for classrooms and families
Trade the music you love.
PopStock is a stock market where the stocks are popular artists. Students buy and sell shares with play money on a real exchange, and learn how investing actually works along the way. Built for ages 13 and up.
01 · How it works
It works like a real stock market.
Most classroom stock games just look up yesterday's prices. PopStock runs a real exchange: when one student buys, another student sells, and the price moves because they traded. Every rule a real market has is here to learn by doing.
- Place orders like an investor · market, limit and stop orders, any time of day
- Learn the advanced tools safely · short selling, options and borrowing, only when the teacher turns them on
- Practice markets · a teacher can run a private market for one class and even crash it on purpose
02 · The price
Real trades. Real prices.
An artist's price is never copied from anywhere. It is the average of the last trades between students, and it charts like any stock: candles, volume, from one day to ten years. Nothing behind the scenes ever moves a price.
- Real charts · the same tools an investor reads, explained as you go
- Real events · halts, splits and dividends happen on the tape and show up on the chart
- Your own history · every trade a student makes is on the record, and the course is graded from it
03 · The second game
Then run your own record label.
Students start a record label, sign popular artists, plan a week of releases and shows, and get paid every Friday. It teaches budgeting, payroll and planning ahead, and it is a league: classmates compete on leaderboards, trade artists with each other, and earn badges along the way.
04 · The course
Learn by doing.
Eight short chapters take a student from their first trade to reading the market. A mission is passed by doing the real thing on the exchange, not by taking a quiz. Students earn points, licenses and trophies along the way.
- Trading basics · Orders · Making a call · Managing risk
- Options · Borrowing · Reading the market · Market events
- Lexi, the built in guide, explains what just happened and why · she never gives tips
05 · Get started
Get started.
Teachers set up a class in minutes and choose which features are on. Parents can play at home with their kids. Students join the class they were given. Pick your door, or look around the market first.
